P&P Initiates Union Talks
We write to update you about the unionization effort at Politics and Prose that began earlier this month. Unions have made a profoundly positive impact on our country by empowering workers and democratizing the workplace, and we respect the right of all employees to seek union representation and bargain collectively.
Because there are divided opinions about unionization among our staff, we’ve been exploring different options for moving ahead. On December 21, we reached out to the union organizers in the spirit of collaboration to propose negotiations on the scope of a collective bargaining unit. Our hope is that these discussions will result in an agreement and open the way to a voluntary recognition of the union at P&P. We support a vote supervised by the National Labor Relations Board if an agreement can’t be reached.
To assist in this process, we’ve engaged a local labor attorney, Kathy Krieger, who has extensive experience representing unions and non-profit institutions.
We remain committed to providing a workplace in which all employees are valued and respected, and we look forward to continuing to work together with our staff members to shape the future of P&P.
Wishing all of you a happy and healthy holiday season,
Brad and Lissa
