P&P Live!: Lauren Francis-Sharma - Book of the Little Axe - in conversation with Dolen Perkins-Valdez

Upcoming Event
Saturday, May 16, 2020 - 3:00pm

This event will be streamed online as part of our P&P Live! Series.

Francis-Sharma, proprietor of the DC Writers' Room and assistant director of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, combines meticulous research with the accomplished storytelling of her 'Til The Well Runs Dry, for a compelling narrative charting the intertwined histories of the Caribbean and the American West. Based in part on the life of Edward Rose, son of a white trader and a Cherokee-Black woman, the novel follows his wife, Rosa Rendón, the independent-minded daughter of a family of free Black landowners, as she leaves Trinidad in the unsettled period following the island’s transition from Spanish to British rule for Bighorn, Montana. But in order for her son to complete his coming-of-age rites, she has to resolve certain questions in her own past, necessitating a return to her homeland. Dunbar will be in conversation with Dolen Perkins-Valdez, author of Wench.

Instead of a set ticket price, we ask that you contribute what you can to support Politics and Prose Bookstore and our virtual event series. We know that everyone has been affected in these trying times, and we will continue to make our programming accessible to all. That said, a suggested contribution of $5, $10, whatever you can afford, will go a long way to keep our programming—and our bookstore—afloat as we are forced to adapt to new ways of business.

The other way you can support us is always by purchasing a copy of the book from our website.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by such a loyal and engaged community and we thank you for your support, now and always.
