P&P Live! Robin Talley - Music From Another World

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, March 31, 2020 - 7:00pm

This event will be streamed online as part of our P&P Live! Series.

It’s the summer of 1977, and closeted lesbian Tammy Larson is surrounded by homophobia in Orange County, California. Her church and school are conservative, and her aunt organizes for anti-gay campaigns. Tammy finds solace in the diary entries she addresses to gay civil rights activist Harvey Milk. Her world opens up when she starts writing to real-life pen pal Sharon Hawkins, a San Francisco resident with secrets of her own. As American homophobia ratchets up even higher, Sharon and Tammy draw comfort and empowerment from their deepening friendship. Told through the girls’ letters, this well-researched and beautifully written story is an ode to punk music, intergenerational LGBTQ solidarity, and the bravery it takes to be oneself in an often hostile world. Ages 13 and up.
